How to Play Hextris
Colored blocks fall toward a spinning central hexagon. Press the left and right arrow keys (or tap the screen's sides) to rotate the hexagon so landing blocks stack by color. Three or more same-colored blocks touching vanish and score. If any stack crosses the outer gray ring, game over. Speed increases as you clear waves.
Hextris History & Background
Hextris appeared in 2014 from a team of high-school developers and quickly gathered a million plays. It takes the falling-block DNA of Tetris and wraps it around a hexagon — familiar mechanics, disorienting new geometry.
Hextris Tips & Strategy
Rotate early, not late — mid-fall rotations give blocks time to settle where you want them. Keep one 'safe' side for mismatched colors and sacrifice it deliberately rather than letting junk spread to all six sides. Chain clears: cleared blocks drop everything above them, and cascades multiply your score. Focus on the two sides adjacent to your tallest stack; that's where games are lost.

How Hextris Works
Hextris is built with web technologies and delivered through this page in an embedded frame. When you press play, your browser downloads the game's code and assets — a few kilobytes to a few megabytes — and runs them locally at full speed. All the processing happens on your own device: input goes straight from your keyboard and mouse to the game, and rendering happens on your GPU. That is why browser games like Hextris start instantly and feel just as responsive as downloaded ones.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play Hextris without paying?
Yes — Hextris costs nothing and has no locked features. It is open source (license: GPL-3.0), hosted on ArcadeQuokka so you can play it right in this tab.
Do I need to download or install Hextris?
No. The game runs entirely in your browser tab — open the page and you are playing. Nothing to install, nothing to set up.
Is Hextris good for beginners?
Yes — like most clean puzzle games, Hextris takes one sentence to learn and much longer to master. Start slow, learn how each piece or rule interacts, and the difficulty builds naturally from your own ambition rather than a timer.
Where is my progress saved?
Locally, in your own browser's storage — nothing is uploaded to a server. One thing to remember: clearing your browser data for this site erases your Hextris saves too.
