Google Snake Game

The game above is "Doodle Snake" — an original game built in-house by ArcadeQuokka as a fan tribute. ArcadeQuokka is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.

The Snake Hiding Inside Google Search

In 2017, Google hid a fully playable Snake inside its search engine: type "snake game" and the results page itself grows a Play button. That little Doodle became one of the most-played versions of Snake ever made — not because it reinvented anything, but because it met people exactly where they already were. No install, no site to visit, just a search box you were already using. The game above is our take on that same idea: a clean, instant, grid-based snake that loads in this tab with zero friction.

How to Play the Official Version

If you want the original, it is easy to find: search "snake game" on Google, then hit Play in the card at the top of the results. What you get:

Why We Built Our Own Version

There are moments the official Doodle can't cover: it only lives on Google's results page, in some regions or work networks it is not reachable, and you cannot embed it on your own site. Doodle Snake — the game on this page — is our original tribute to that experience, built from scratch: the same plain grid, a red fruit, a green snake that grows one cell per bite, a running score and a best-score memory in your browser. It is not the Google game and is not affiliated with Google — it is simply the same honest idea, always one click away, with no search required.

How It Plays

Press an arrow key (or swipe on your phone) and the snake starts moving. Eat the red fruit to grow and score; every fifth fruit nudges the pace up a little, so the endgame is genuinely faster than the start. Hit a wall or your own tail and the run ends, with your best score kept in local storage on your device. Nothing to download, nothing to sign, no ads inside the play area.

Score benchmarks, from our own testing: clearing your first 10 fruit is a solid start, 25 means you are planning turns ahead, and anything past 50 means you are comfortably steering a snake that covers a third of the board. If you want a tougher rule set after that, the snake arcade game on our main page speeds up with every bite, and the nokia snake page covers the phone-classic that started the one-button nostalgia wave.

The Doodle's Place in Snake History

It is worth appreciating how many times Snake has been reinvented for a new home: a 1976 arcade cabinet (the original), a 1997 mobile phone (the Nokia era), a browser near you, and finally a search results page. Each version succeeded by removing one more step between the player and the game. The Google Doodle removed nearly all of them — you did not even have to choose a website. That is the standard this page aims at: the game is above you right now, and the only step left is to press a key.
